Launching… interior design, the Italian way

For most people, Italian is synonymous with beauty and style.
A seemingly effortless easy way of living, an alchemy of design, colors, textures, materials and elements that are capable o f transforming environments into a space which is a delicate balance of everlasting elegance, comfort and function.

Domus has naturally been involved with the art of living in the house.
In the path of its founder Gio Ponti, who largely focused on interior architecture and significatly contributed to the definition of an Italian way to interior design, Domus offers an exclusive summer school that aims at defining the peculiaritites and characteristics of an approach that can still be found today in the Italian declination of interior design.

The program formula combines theory and direct experience on field through the engagement of a selected group of stakeholders in the design industries.

In order to guarantee the best quality of teaching,a challenging global environment and networking opportunities, the course is reserved to maximum 20 young international architect and design professionals, possessing evidence of basic qualification in theareas of interior design, product design, architecture, engineering, visual arts.

Participants will be selected by Domus in co-operation with its regional partners around the world.

Italy’s cultural legacy to interior design
The role of domus is crucial in defining the principles of Italian interior design

Manolo De Giorgi, speech
Architect and journalist, has a deep knowledge of design and interiors, new craftsmanship and its role in defining industrial design

Studiopepe, speech Founded in Milan, in 2006, it focuses on design and research through the use of a multidisciplinary approach and experimentation.

* JULY 2 - From the elegance of Milanese interiors to the history of furniture design

Piero Portaluppi and Milan
Architect Portaluppi had a strong tie with Milan. He designed many unique buildings that contributed to the city’s 20th century’s cityscape, to include: Casa Boschi Di Stefano, Atellani, Villa Necchi Campiglio

Villa Borsani ,Varedo
Is considered a jewel of modern architecture. Faithful to the rigorous principles of rationalism, it provides a new interpretation of déco.

Tecno, factory visit
Founded by Osvaldo Borsani, the company follows in the path of traditional production that unifies technology and craftsmanship. Zanotta is the latest acquisition. Inside the plant is the wood workshop that still produces custom- made furnishings.

For two centuries Bottega Ghianda has been a true benchmark for artisanal manual skill. The collaboration between craftsmen and designers has allowed the creation of marvelous objects.

* JULY 4 - Turin, the artistic approach to design

Studio Marcante Testa
The prominent interior design studio sets out to elegantly recombine multiple habitat values. It focuses on careful use of material and decor and on the transformation of spaces that blend tradition and refinement.

Studio 65 Franco Audrito
It embodies the roots of radical design, the Italian design revolution and its strong ties with pop art

Casa Mollino
A powerful estimony to the life and works of one of Italy’s most influential and
eccentric designers of the 20° Century… a house in which he never lived.

OGR – Officine Grandi Riparazioni
The former industrial plant was reopened in 2017 and is now the city’s new cultural center

* JULY 5 - The Italian way of living

Enrico Finzi, speech
Sociologist and journalist, university professor, has written and curated essays and writings on sociology, marketing and contemporary history.

Giulio Iacchetti
Industrial designer and founder of Internoitaliano, the “factory network” made up of many craftsmen labs with whom he signs and produces furniture and accessories inspired by the italian way of living.

Vudafieri Saverino Partners
The studio’s approach is based on both architectural culture and sensitivity to current trends in design, fashion, and art, dialectically and transversally leveraging experience and knowledge in these sectors.

Dimore Studio
The studio’s projects aim at recreating timeless, visual and emotional atmospheres, from the definition of the ensemble to the choice of furniture, objects, textures and colours.

* Venice Art Biennale – the extended program

The program can be extended with a special weekend to the 58th edition of Venice Art Biennale, titled “May you live in interesting times”, curated by Ralph Rugoff, currently the director of the Hayward Gallery in London.

The special weekend (July 6-7), organized in co-operation with the European Cultural Academy, will provide a uniqueinsight to one of the most prestigious art events in the world, and will include:
- classes from Biennale experts
- private tours and lectures
- palazzo visits with curators and organisers

It will be an exclusive, inspiring experience “behind the scenes” of one of the most anticipated art events in 2019, in one of the most wonderful cities in the world.
