Conceived by Lisbon's Metro Urbe architects and Quiet Studios for interiors, The Rebello not only boasts proximity to the city's sole surviving boatyard but also encapsulates the essence of Porto's maritime soul. The hotel, sprawling across its historical breadth, houses 107 rooms, each a testament to its unique blend of past and present.
In the gentle flow of time, Porto's Douro River still whispers tales of its past. Where once rabelos, unique to Porto's heritage, danced upon the waters, laden with barrels of port wine, today they offer serene sails to visitors, adding vibrant hues to the waterfront. These small wooden boats, a symbol of Porto's rich history, now find their reflection in the city's cultural fabric — from charming cafes to quaint hotels echoing their legacy.
Where once the clatter of kitchen utensils resonated, now the ground floor hosts a restaurant, its concept sprouting from the site's former life. Yet, beyond culinary motifs, the site stood bare, beckoning a transformative touch. The architects and designers embraced this challenge, meticulously rejuvenating the historic structures.
As one steps into The Rebello, the journey of sensory and aesthetic delight begins. The entrance itself, a welcoming threshold, is adorned with a massive wooden sculpture, a testament to the creative vision of THER, a Lisbon-based duo of designers. Quiet Studios, in close collaboration with Barracuda Interiors, carefully selected vintage pieces that blend harmoniously with modern designs from brands like Origin Made, local to Porto. This fusion of styles is not just a juxtaposition but a conversation between different periods and design philosophies. Each element, diverse in origin, unites to tell a cohesive story—a narrative that celebrates the rich history and the enduring value of craftsmanship.
Further in, the spa, reminiscent of traditional Romanian baths, offers a retreat for the senses. Its design is a blend of the old and the new, paying homage to ancient relaxation rituals while embracing contemporary comfort. It's a space where time seems to pause, allowing for a moment of tranquil introspection.
